Who is a child contact centre for?

A child contact centre is a welcoming, neutral environment for children to engage in contact with important family members they wouldn’t normally see. At the Starting Point Centre, we offer different types of contact, depending on the unique needs of every family.

Although contact centres see a lot of divorced or separated parents looking to rebuild a relationship with their child, the Starting Point Centre isn’t just open to parents. Our family-friendly facilities welcome grandparents, close relatives and birth parents where appropriate.

Grandparents & close relatives

Divorce, separation and family breakdowns don’t just affect parents - they can have a negative impact on other important relationships in a child’s life. We understand that it can b

e difficult to regain contact with a child when tensions are running high, but our priority is always with developing healthy and meaningful relationships.

If you’re struggling to regain contact, we also offer mediation services to help families come to agreements without the need for legal intervention. Our director and founder Anna is a qualified family mediator who understands the difficulties surrounding child contact.

Non-resident parents

No matter how difficult your relationship with your partner or ex-partner might be, this shouldn’t negatively impact the time spent with your child. Parental relationships are so important - not just in the here and now, but also for your child’s future.

At the Starting Point Centre, we offer handover services to avoid parents meeting while tensions are running high. This prevents your child from witnessing conflict as they’re transferred from one parent to the other, so the focus of your session can be on spending fun and meaningful time together.

Court-ordered contact

If you’re looking for a place to have court-ordered child contact, our child contact centre can cater to your needs. We offer supervised, supported and indirect contact as part of our range of services. With our DBS checked staff, the safety of every child is always the top priority.

When contact is ordered by the court, it can easily feel forced and unnatural, especially if you haven’t had any interaction with your child for a while. This is exactly why we have toys, games and activities on offer so that the experience is fun and stress-free for everyo

ne involved. Our child-friendly and fun facilities are a great place to meet.

Self-referrals

You don’t need a court order to engage with a child contact centre. To organise a session, all you need to do is make an enquiry, and one of our friendly team will get back to you as soon as possible. We can also discuss the best options for you and your family, and see which type of contact works for you.

We also have a range of resources on our blog which explore how a child contact centre works.
